Massage Therapy FAQs

Have questions before your appointment? Here are answers to some of the most common questions about massage therapy at Tacora.

What should I expect at my first massage?

Before your massage, your therapist will talk with you about your goals, areas of concern, pressure preferences, and anything else that may affect your session. Your massage will then be customized around what you’re looking for, whether that’s relaxation, focused work, or a combination of both.

Do I have to undress for a massage?

You should undress to your comfort level. In general, less clothing allows your massage therapist to work more effectively and makes it easier to access the areas being treated. However, you should never remove more clothing than you’re comfortable with. You’ll have privacy while getting ready and will remain professionally covered and draped throughout your massage, with only the area being worked on uncovered.

How much pressure should I choose for my massage?

You don’t have to know before you arrive. Tell your therapist what feels comfortable and what you’re hoping to accomplish, and they can adjust the pressure throughout your massage. You can always ask for more or less pressure during your session.

Should I book a 30, 60, 90, or 120 minute massage?

A 30-minute massage works well for focused attention on one or two areas. A 60-minute massage gives more time for a full-body massage or a combination of general and focused work. Choose 90 or 120 minutes when you’d like more extensive focused work, multiple areas addressed, or simply more time to relax.

Is it normal to feel sore after a massage?

Some people experience temporary soreness or tenderness after a massage, particularly after more focused or deeper work. Your massage should not simply feel painful, though, so communicate with your therapist during the session if the pressure or technique is uncomfortable.
